STEM Immersion Program

Stem Testimonial

Stem Infomercial

The STEM Immersion Institute is a 5 day summer program held on the campus of KSU focused on providing African American Male Students with: (1) Exposure to Campus Tours & STEM select Careers & Jobs, (2) Instruction from college professors that provide them with “hands on” experiences, and (3) The ability to engage STEM professionals to gain insight & knowledge in the field.

Opportunity

STEM jobs are one of the fastest growing sectors’ and African American males are significantly underrepresented in these fields, making up only 7% of computer occupations and only 5% of engineers. Evidence suggests “Underrepresented communities”  participation in STEM summer programs make them 4X more likely to graduate high school, attend 4 colleges, & earn STEM degrees.

Objective

Our main goal in the STEM Immersion program is to spur interest in STEM fields for African American male high school students in Cobb and North Fulton Counties to encourage the pursuit of future employment in STEM professions. Investing in these young men today will help increase STEM workforce representation in the future.
