On Saturday morning February 1 st , a bus carrying 25 Youth To Men mentees and 5 chaperones
left Osborne High to participate in the Greater Atlanta HBCU College Fair held at Meadowcreek
High School in Gwinnett County. The event was hosted by the RKL Education Foundation. An
estimated 1400 participants registered for the activity and over 45 HBCU’s were represented
and speaking directly to students about the HBCU college experience, educational
opportunities and specific degrees offered, the application and financial aid process, and the
valuable life experiences gained by attending an HBCU.
Many HBCU’s participating were offering scholarships on-site. Students and families also had
the opportunity to schedule band interviews for those seeking band scholarships. The HACEF
Board would like to thank both James Ford II and Carlos Smiley for their leadership and
engagement to create this special opportunity for our Youth To Men mentees and families. We
would also like to thank our 2 Industry Sponsors, the Cobb Friendship Club and Cobb EMC
Foundation who provided funding to make this opportunity possible for our students and
families.
